Whether we agree to it or not, our daily routines and practices play a crucial role in promoting energy and health. Therefore, Dr Kausthub Desikachar shares the Top 5 Ayurvedic practices to add to your daily routine for the best of health.

Every choice made influences how we look and feel: the foods we consume, lifestyle alternatives we make, even the subtle thoughts that run through our mind. When it comes to making choices to maintain our health, it can often feel overwhelming. Kausthub says it only takes awareness, self-discipline, and commitment to building healthy habits, and that is why kick-starting with an Ayurvedic journey can be the most significant thing you will ever do for yourself.

RISE EARLY
According to Ayurvedic tradition, one of the passkeys to good health and feeling fabulous throughout the day is living with nature’s cycle, which means rising and setting down with the sun. Dr Kausthub Desikachar recommends rising ideally before 6 a.m. Gradually, make an effort to wake up early, and you will automatically fall asleep quicker and stay in tune with nature’s cycle.

 TONGUE CLEANING
Cleaning or scraping your tongue every day is notably efficient in removing the toxins from your body, clears bacteria, and dead cells from the tongue and prevents bad breath. It also stimulates your sense of taste and improves oral and digestive health. A natural copper tongue scraper is recommended in Ayurveda.

DRINK WARM LEMON WATER
Dr Kausthub Desikachar says the perfect way to jumpstart your day is to drink a glass of lukewarm water with lemon added to it early in the morning on an empty stomach. There are plenty of benefits by consuming this simple homemade beverage. Lemon water helps in preparing your body for bowel movements, thereby helps in improving digestion. Lemon water detoxifies your entire body and can improve your skin tone and complexion too. Lemon being high in Vitamin C, keeps infections at bay and maintains your immune system healthy.

SELF ABHYANGA
Self Abhyanga is the process of massaging your body with warm oil. Dr Kausthub Desikachar says you might want to ignore it as it is time-consuming, but it has many benefits. Self Abhyanga nourishes your skin and tissues, helps in detoxification, it is an anti-ageing therapy, increases blood circulation, and enables you to sleep like a baby and keep your mind relaxed. It is recommended to atleast oil the whole body about 2-3 times a week.

ASANA & PRANAYAMA
Dr Kausthub Desikachar recommends practising Yoga asanas and Pranayama at least 30 minutes a day. Yoga and other breathing techniques like pranayama help increase blood circulation, improves flexibility, awakens your mind, builds energy flow and strength in the body and the mind, develops self-awareness, reduces body pain, lowers depression, anxiety, stress and improves sleep pattern.

Kausthub wishes all his readers’ much health, happiness, and encourages you to begin with your Ayurvedic journey.
