Chant that eliminates negative emotions – by Dr Kausthub Desikachar

Dr. Kausthub Desikachar shares with us the benefits of reciting Jaya Jaya śrī sudarśana mantra, which is part of the glorious chant called Sudarśanāṣṭakam.

जय जय श्री सुदर्शन जय जय श्री सुदर्शन ||
Jaya Jaya Sri sudarsana, Jaya Jaya Sri Sudarsana. 1

Śrī Sudarśana is the sacred cakra or the wheel which the Lord Viṣṇu carries in his right hand as his chief weapon. It is a chakra of light and fire that eliminates the darkness and evil inherent within us. It is believed, if one chants the Sudarśanāṣṭakam with divine dedication and faith, they are empowered to remove any obstacles in life and also accomplish one’s desires because of the glorious blessing of the Lord Sudarshana.

Dr. Kausthub Desikachar further says that this mantra also helps remove our negative emotions from our life like anger, resentment, greed, pride, shame, bitterness, lust, etc.

Often, in this chaotic world, many people experience a range of emotional states in our daily lives, but we try to avoid it. Our negative emotions can create stress in the body and mind. None of us like to feel stressed, so we tend to look out for ways to vent those emotions, and few others stuff those emotions inside them, which leads to health issues in the long run.

Kausthub says our body is designed to warn us when we go through negative emotions, and we look for ways to keep us safe and motivated.
Just by listening and reciting this mantra, it also removes negative impressions (vāsana-s) that we have acquired over from our life journey or have inherited from our ancestors and helps us have a positive outlook on everything around us.

Dr. Kausthub Desikachar recommends listening and reciting this mantra 16 times, twice a day. Reciting this mantra early in the morning and evening before sunset would be a good time to practice.
