The Sun is an essential natural component in Vedic tradition. The Sun, Sūrya, is often described as the soul of the existence, eye of the universe, representing the life-force on the earth. According to Hindu Astrology, the planet Sun is recognised for its power, strength, and majesty and is the chief of the Navagraha, an important element.

This Sūrya-gāyatrī-mantra is one of the many Śākhā-gāyatrī-mantra-s and is dedicated and to the Sun.

By chanting the Sūrya-gāyatrī-mantra, you are honouring and praising the one who sustains the earth by showering his healing rays, and you seek the blessings of the Sun.

Regardless of age and gender, anyone can chant this mantra and the best time to recite this mantra is the auspicious period of Brahma Muhurtha (1 hour 30 minutes before the sunrise). It is even better to offer water in a copper utensil to the Sun and then recite these chants.
